2024 RI Combination Information
The combination endorsement allows you to drive a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) with a trailer attached. The combination endorsement is required for a Class A CDL and allows only one trailer to be attached to the power unit. If you are looking to pull more than one trailer you will also need to take the doubles - triples endorsement.
The combination exam is comprised of 20 multiple choice questions covering the additional skills needed to operate a combination vehicle, which are usually heavier, longer, and require extra skill. You will need to score at least 80% (16 out of 20) to pass the combination exam.
